About
The Sweet Shop Gearhart opened February 2017 in a historic building in downtown Gearhart. With an emphasis on local, organic and homemade items, the shop showcased Traci William’s love of entertaining, devotion to new trends and a passion for supporting businesses with a cause. The shop had something for everyone: 24 flavors of Ice Cream from Cascade Glacier in the Willamette Valley and fresh bakery items made daily. They proudly served custom roasted coffee from Longbottom Coffee. They had one of the most extensive selections of wine on the North Coast, featuring the best of Oregon, Washington, California and beyond. The building was sold in October 2021.
History
Over the years, the space had been used in a variety of ways. In the 1920’s it housed a soda fountain called Poppino’s Sweet Shop, in the 1950’s part of the building was turned into a high fashion hair salon, then was later an antique store. For about 15 years it operated as Pop’s Sweet Shop on one side and boarded up office space on the other. The prior owner built up a following for handmade scones, Williams took that tradition and ran with it and sold more than 47,000 in her 5 years. Often there was a line down the block! Stay tuned to see what the new owners do with the space.
Relaxation
Williams, with the help of Beach Construction, LLC, renovated and upgraded the interior and gardens, adding cozy couch seating, a large gathering table, wifi and work space. There was a large TV, where guests could watch sports, major news events or the Oscars. There was also a big fire pit for s’mores, terrace area, outdoor “Sweet Shed” that served beer on tap. Since COVID-19, much of the interior functioned as a showcase for artisan products, picnic supplies and specialty gifts. The newest owners are expected to transform the inside yet again!
